Weekly Photo Challenge: Journey
I was born and raised in Colorado, so the largest body of water I saw as a kid included the local reservoir. I remember seeing the ocean for the first time (likely on one of my family’s many trips to North or South Carolina to see family) and feeling very small. My dad would swim with me in his arms to deep enough water where I couldn’t touch and joke about watching for sharks. In North Carolina the water is green and choppy, unlike the clear blue waters of the tropics, so I would frantically look around for shark fins breaking the ocean’s surface.
Back on the beach I would watch the birds drift in the ocean wind and wonder what they saw as they journeyed over the sea.
Sometimes I would get the urge to leave everything behind and sail East.
What do you think of when you hear the word “journey?”
